Ranks and Grading

Like many martial arts, Aikido practitioners progress by going through a series of ‘grades’ (kyu), followed by ‘degrees’ (dan), based on their techniques, flexibility, and accuracy of postures, as well as will , confidence and resilience to name a few.

A pair of wide pleated black or indigo trousers called a hakama is often worn by instructors or those with Dan ranks.

At Warwick Aikido, members start from 6th Kyu and have chances to move up their ranks once every year, usually during the Christmas Seminar.
